The term "disciple" implies qualities which Jesus Himself prescribed. The purpose to "raise up disciples" implies that the disciples we make are expected to embrace the mission. Evangelising the lost, establishing believers, and equipping disciples to reproduce themselves are all embedded in this simple statement. It touches on both the global scope and personal depth of the Great Commission. Jesus prescribed certain criteria for those who would be His disciples. At CCC we define a true disciple in the following way… |

He puts Christ first in his life and is taking steps to separate from sin… Luke 9:23 (cf Rom 12:1, Gal 2:20) He maintains a rich daily devotional life, & is growing in faith & intercessory prayer… John 15:7, (cf Mk 1:35, Ps 5:3) He continues in the Word through regular study, memorization and application… John 8:31, (cf 2 Tim 2:15, Ps 1:2,3) He demonstrates Christ's love by identifying with and serving other believers… John 13:34,35, (cf Heb 10:24,25, Phil 2:3,4) He identifies with Jesus Christ and is actively sharing his faith… Matt 4:19 (cf Acts 1:8, Col 1:28) He is a learner, who is open and teachable… Luke 6:40 (cf 1 Pet 5:5,6) He is a visible follower of Christ who demonstrates faithfulness and consistency in all the above.
